Should Bellingham hopes to earn his place back into England’s best team, the smart move to eliminate the dramatics. The way he reacted when he saw that he was being shown after an evening of inconsistency in Tirana was not good enough.

"I don’t want to overstate it but I stand by my words 'conduct is crucial' and respect for the teammates who substitute on," Tuchel said. "Choices are taken and you need to comply when you're on the field."

The midfielder must understand. It was unnecessary for an outburst. Drawing Attention Upon Himself

However, the player drew all eyes toward himself. No one could overlook the young midfielder's frustration as he realized that he would be substituted for another player. His arms went up in exasperation and although he accepted the coach's hand on his way to the touchline there was no doubt that the head coach was not impressed.

This represents the hurdle facing Bellingham. He congratulated Marcus Rashford for providing the assist for Kane to score his second goal, but his other actions was self-defeating. It's not like protesting was going to reverse the substitution. The German has repeatedly emphasized honoring the team structure and the necessity of showing proper conduct.

In the Spotlight

He, left out of the team last month, has been under scrutiny since coming back to the team recently. Essentially he was being assessed and he has not done himself any favours through his behavior to being taken off as the national team wrapped up a perfect qualifying campaign by overcoming a spirited effort from the Albanian team.

The System and the Setup

It means it's unclear on if England function at their best with Bellingham in the team. The evidence here was open to interpretation. Tuchel tried new things from the manager in the beginning. He has given the team a clear system in recent months, building with a defensive midfielder, a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder and dedicated wide players, but there was a different feel against Albania. Jarell Quansah was given his first cap, Wharton made his first start at this level and the role of John Stones as a part-time midfielder gave a similar look to Manchester City’s historic treble-winning side.

A Game of Two Halves

Bellingham had ups and downs. He made a chance for Eberechi Eze after the break but at times seemed overly eager to shine. Several poorly executed passes. An unnecessary confrontation with an Albania midfielder at the beginning. England were ragged for much of the second half. An opportunity for Albania followed Bellingham gave the ball away. His caution was shown after an opponent took the ball by Broja and fouled the former Chelsea striker.

Squad Strength Shows

Finally the bench quality made the difference. Tuchel introduced Foden, who seemed more naturally fitted to the spot in which Bellingham operated in the opening period, and Bukayo Saka. In time Saka delivered a set-piece for Harry Kane to break the deadlock. It was a reminder that corners and free-kicks will play a key role at the World Cup.

Relationship Not Broken

However, all talk was about Bellingham. The quality of Rashford’s assist for Kane's goal was partly forgotten in the ridiculousness of the Rogers substitution. When the match concluded, all eyes were on the midfielder. Tuchel walked up from behind and guided Bellingham towards the away supporters. Their relationship is not damaged. Tuchel is not willing to give up on Bellingham yet. But if he is willing to give him centre stage is not guaranteed.
